The Dawdle Song graphic words

by Gail Ruth

My best friend’s name is Dawdle,
I’ve known her all my days;
We play & think & dream our dreams
In heartfelt dreamer ways;
We talk in rhymes and pictures,
Ideas flowing free;
We feast on thoughts and bubblegum,
And taste eternity.

We shilly-shally shimmy
And we dilly-dally dance,
Then Dawdle and I may depart
To inner worlds perchance,
And there we might stand mesmerized,
Entranced by the sublime,
Entirely oblivious
To sound and sight and time.

Chorus:
Heigh-ho! a dilly-dally, hey! a fiddle-dee-doh!
Willy-nilly dancin' off in inner world we go!
Heigh-ho! a shilly-shally, hey! a fiddle-dee-dee!
Livin' in a dawdle way is how I'm meant to be!

The lessons Dawdle teaches
Are certainly hard-won:
To see with mystic senses and
To joy with giddy fun;
To learn to walk in harmony
With shifting ebb & flow;
To delve into the myst’ries &
The treasures found in slow. CHORUS

Dawdle is a sacred gift
Who holds a sacred key,
For it’s when I’m with her
The Creator visits me.
Who knew God was so light of heart?
That He’d be Dawdle’s friend?
That of His sheer delight in us
I’d never find an end? CHORUS

My best friend’s name is Dawdle,
I’ve known her all my days;
We play & think & dream our dreams
In heartfelt dreamer ways;
We talk in rhymes and pictures
Ideas flowing free;
We feast on thoughts and bubblegum
And taste eternity. CHORUS
