two sheer multi-color flags, a stiff, shimmery fabric a bit rough to the touch
Lovely ombre fabrics

a gathered, raggedly-cut flag that floats gloriously in the air, an insubstantial fabric like a cool, shaded pool of water reflecting the trees and the clear skyof
A gathered flag with a sewing machine rolled hem. This one flies incredibly. A favorite flag.

Inspiring flag ideas

From the creative mind and sewing machine of my friend Maile

You can make these flags any size you want. Maile tends to use the following sizes for children's flags:

  • For ages 2 through 4 years old (or thereabouts): 24"x 16" with a 24" pole (fabric size 27" x 18")
  • For ages 5 through 8 years old: 28" x 22" with a 30" pole (fabric size 31" x 24")
  • For ages 8 or 9 and above, she uses the regular adult-size flags if they are willing and able to treat them respectfully

Oversize flags can be made in many sizes. Oversize flags are more intrusive and require extra attention to protocol and courtesy when used.

  • One of her standard oversize flag sizes is 52" x 34" with a 43" pole. This uses a full yard of 55" wide fabric.

You can gather the fabric for a nice effect. We sew the gathering in place with a ribbon or trim. (See pictures to left)

The bad news? Maile won't be able to sew your flags for you; she's too busy being creative.
